Inspiring+ People – John Voshell
“A vivid Imagination is awesome a Manic Imagination is a curse.”
This week, we will be interviewing John Voshell. A man who suffered a great tragedy when he was just 2, and lost his father in a car accident. John has also been dealing with an illness, that affects 4.4% of Americans today – bipolar disorder. And due to this illness, he has not been able to work for over 3 years now. Bipolar Disorder is an illness that has affected my own sister, and I have watched her mental state deteriorate over the past 15 years. John is a remarkable person who has not allowed himself to get caught up in doing drugs, which is all too common among those suffering from Bipolar.
Prior to being diagnosed with Bipolar, John would often have blackouts while driving, would end up in a different state, and had no idea how he got there. He would also leave food on the stove, and forgot it was there. For many, they do not take medication consistently, so their mental health slowly deteriorates. John is a strong person, who stuck it out for over a year and a half of trying different combinations of medication. And recently, the doctors finally found the right ones. Too many give up, from side affects, and not having enough strength within themselves to want to get better. For others, the medication is too costly, and cannot afford them, which John is all too familiar with. There was a period of time in John’s life when he could not afford his medication for years. However, John now has great support from his family who assist with his medication, and he has found other things he is passionate about to help him through those tough times.
This will be an On-Air Hangout.
